Forum: GratefulDead Subject: Non-Dead (not the band, anyway): Why can't we just call it what it is?

From an article regarding the recent passing of Ryan Dunn:

"Ryan Dunn and a passenger in his car died of "blunt and thermal trauma" when the 2007 Porsche 911 GT3 crashed and caught fire on a Pennsylvania highway early Monday, according to the autopsy report released Tuesday."

Thermal trauma? Very creative. I guess "burned to death" is a little to graphic for today's politically correct media. If Jerry died now he'd get a headline like "60's Rock Icon Suffers Post-Chemical Saturation Induced Rigor Mortis".

Suppose that fits 'em all.

Most obits could start off with a standardized template:

"John Q. Public passed away suddenly yesteday from heart failure. The heart failure occurred soon after he was impaled by a javelin at a track meet"

Here's a Dumb Moment in Journalism I've seen quoted in textbooks. A plane crashed in Alaska, killing all aboard. At the press conference, a reporter asked: "What did they die of?" The answer: "The plane stopped and they didn't."

Peter Falk died yesterday.
